Pay Under Protest Form
Please use the new protest letter below. Do not copy previous year's letters as the tax year referenced is wrong.
There are three ways to pay your property taxes:
- Via a check, paid once for the whole year or in four quarterly payments.
- Via your mortgage bank's impound account, which you contribute to on a monthly basis.
- Via a credit card. This was new for the 2010/11 tax year. Note that you will be charged an extra 2.5% in fees to cover expenses associated with this payment method.
Each time a check is written, you need to include a protest letter with the payment. If your taxes are paid via an impound account, then you only need to send in the protest letter once. Each time you pay by credit card, you need to mail in a protest letter.
See below for specific instructions for each payment method.

HOW TO PAY YOUR 2011/12
PROPERTY TAXES UNDER PROTEST
when you pay the taxes yourself, via a check
1. Click here to open up the form letter (in pdf file format).
2. Print out one (1) copy of the Payment Under Protest Letter each time you make a payment of your 2011/12 property taxes.
3. Fill out the Payment Under Protest Letter with the appropriate information.
4. Write your check to the Washoe County Treasurer.
5. Detach the property tax stub from your property tax bill form.
6. Mail your tax stub, your check and the Payment Under Protest Letter to:
- Washoe County Treasurer
PO Box 30039
Reno, NV 89520-3039
7. Send in your payment(s) on time! The four (4) payments are due on or before:
- August 15, 2011 ... and again on
- October 3, 2011 ... and again on
- January 2, 2012 ... and again on
- March 5, 2012

3. Fill out the Payment Under Protest Letter with the appropriate information.
4. Mail the Payment Under Protest Letter to:

5. Please try to mail the Payment Under Protest Letter before:
- August 15, 2011
