We did it - Our dream came true !

ALERT: #95
DATE: March 9, 2006
TO: Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners
FROM: Nevada Property Tax Revolt Committee

Dear Incline Village and Crystal Bay Taxpayers,

Everyone of us has thought, at some time during the last four years of this effort, that we might not be successful. I am sure that many of you had doubts as well. How wrong we were. At yesterday’s hearing before the combined Panels of the Washoe County Board of Equalization, we won by unanimous vote, the roll-back of assessed property values to the 2002-2003 tax year for EVERY ONE of the 8,000+ properties in Incline Village and Crystal Bay.

This had never happened before in the entire history of the State of Nevada. We are really blazing new trails. This “grass-roots” movement is alive and well.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Another battle begins. We will have to fight to save our victory. The Washoe County Assessor has appealed this reduction in our values to the State Board of Equalization; and more appeals to overturn our tax reductions will be filed by the Assessor in the District Courts and the Supreme Court.

We currently are defending Judge Maddox’ Order from an Appeal by the Washoe County Assessor at the Supreme Court; Hearings will begin in Judge Griffin’s court on March 15, against the State Board of Equalization and the Washoe County Assessor; Judge McGee’s court convenes on March 22; the Trial of Washoe County Assessor McGowan begins on April 10 in the court of Judge Polaha - and on, and on, and on. Of course the Attorneys’ invoices are coming ever faster and ever larger.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU

Click on the following link to our website if you are interested in seeing how much the Total Taxable Value of your property will be decreased:

The assessment rolls will not be changed to reflect your new, lower property value until after the Supreme Court has heard and issued a Decision on the Washoe County Assessor’s appeal of Judge Maddox’ Order. We really will have to do battle at every step of the way to keep these lower property values, as the County is frantic over the amount of tax dollars that they are going to lose.

It will take more time and treasure, and our coffers are getting low.

You will have our gratitude for any donation that you could make to the Village League. All of us are volunteers who are winning this epic conflict against an entrenched bureaucracy.

All contributions are tax deductible. We would appreciate any help that you can give us. Please click on the following link for a one page Contribution Form (pdf)
