FRONT PAGE NEWS!! ALERT: #202 Both the Reno-Gazette Journal and the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza felt that our latest Nevada Supreme Court victory was worthy of front page coverage. We certainly agree!! Please click on the following two links to read both articles. www.nevadapropertytaxrevolt.org/09/090325-RGJ.pdf As was to be expected, the Washoe County District Attorney has attempted to downplay this powerful Court Order in our “sledgehammer” 2003 case, with dire forebodings of all of the efforts that Washoe County will make to derail the payment of millions of dollars in reimbursements plus interest to the deserving taxpayers of Incline Village and Crystal Bay. When will the County “wake up and smell the coffee?” The Village League has won four out of four Nevada Supreme Court consecutive cases with unanimous decision. Why is the County still litigating about matters that they have already lost? Justice is delayed, but at what an enormous expense to the County. While Washoe County dithers, the 6% interest, as awarded by the Court, on repayments as yet not issued, continues to compound at $12,000 per day. How much more fiscal mismanagement can Washoe County afford? BASIS OF THE DECISION The latest Order to equalize that came from the Supreme Court is directly based on the fact that property taxes, paid on residential land located in the lakeside portion of Douglas County, are only one quarter to one half the dollar amount of taxes paid on parcels of the same value by Incline Village and Crystal Bay owners Additionally, the Village League has succeeded in getting land values lowered and overpaid taxes reimbursed to about 1200 of the 8700 IV/CB property owners. Why should the remaining taxpayers not receive the same relief? The Nevada Constitution guarantees that this unfairness will not happen!! Why does Washoe County continue to insist that it has rights that supersede those of the citizens? Since the courts have ruled that illegal and unconstitutional methods were universally applied to everyone in IV/CB why does the County think that it should keep the excess taxes it collected? ANSWERS? The questions posed above should be asked of each of the Washoe County Commissioners as well the Washoe County Manager, Katy Simon. Please take a few moments to let them know of your concerns.
