Washoe County Board of Equalization Hearing Has Been Canceled
ALERT: #134
DATE: May 7, 2007 TO: Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners FROM: Village League Tax Revolt Committee Dear Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners, This is a friendly reminder to let you all know that tomorrow’s Washoe County Board of Equalization Hearing has been canceled. The hearing was to have taken place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, starting at 9:00 AM, tomorrow morning. Why was the Hearing Canceled? As Maryanne announced on Saturday, the Nevada Supreme Court knows how to do the right thing. They stopped (granted a stay) the illegal hearing that the State Board of Equalization and the Washoe County Assessors office wanted to happen. Both entities were hoping that the Washoe County Board of Equalization would reverse their decision of March 8, 2006. The WCBOE voted to roll-back all personal property land values for the 06/07 tax year to the taxable land values established for the 02/03 tax year, provided the Nevada Supreme Court ruled favorably on the property tax case. It took 10 months for the NV Supreme Court to rule and it was favorable. The Washoe County Assessors office could have appealed the WCBOE decision last year, but chose not to. Since the NV Supreme Court ruled in our favor, the Assessor tried to illegally re-open the 06/07 hearing. Time had expired. It was too late - and the NV Supreme Court agreed. Stay tuned for more alerts. This is not over yet. The when and how of the roll-back of our property taxes is yet to be accomplished. Maryanne will let you know via future alerts as events unfold.
