Tax Revolt and Reform Update

ALERT: #116
DATE: January 8, 2007
TO: Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners
FROM: Village League Tax Revolt Committee

Dear Fellow Taxpayers,

A very sincere thank you to all of you who promptly sent in your Petitions for Review and to those of you who generously anticipated our need, and sent contributions as well.

We are frantically organizing all of the data for presentation to the office of the Washoe County Assessor, and anticipate that we will be represented by Attorney Suellen Fulstone in our hearings before the County Board of Equalization.

We were hopeful that our Petition for Reconsideration before the Nevada Tax Commission last Friday would be fruitful and that we would not need to go forward. But once again, we will need to present our appeals to the CBOE (Washoe County Board of Equalization).

The Nevada Tax Commission denied our Petition on procedural grounds, not on factual grounds. (In other words – more of the same.) The Commission stated that because THEY hadn't scheduled the hearing within the 30 day period after their original decision and that it was automatically denied.

We had specifically requested, with the timely filing of our Petition on November 16th, that a special hearing be called to satisfy that requirement, even telephonically.

However Chairman Sheets said that because it was the “holiday season”, he wouldn't be able to schedule any hearing until January 5, which of course exceeded the time-line.

Those of you who have sent in the much needed contributions will be receiving a personal letter for your IRS donation files. Normally, we are able to get these acknowledgements to you rather promptly and will do our best to get your letters out as quickly as we possibly can. Organizing all of the information for the appeals to the Washoe County Board of Equalization is an enormous task which is consuming almost all of my time at the moment.

Our appreciation goes out to all of you for your support and cooperation, without which there would be no hope of final success.

We will be sending Alerts to keep you apprised of each step on our way to final victory. Keep the faith!!!

Sincerely,

Maryanne Ingemanson
