What Now?

ALERT: #115
DATE: January 1, 2007
TO: Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners
FROM: Village League Tax Revolt Committee

Dear Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners,

It is a new year and we are off to a wonderful start with the Supreme Court decision issued on December 28, 2006. Hopefully, we will be successful in our hearing before the Nevada Tax Commission on January 5th. We will be requesting that the Commission remove the 15% increase in the assessment of your land value that was indicated in the Assessment Notice that you received on December 19, 2006.

However, we MUST continue to file “Petitions for Review of Assessed Valuation” to the Washoe County Board of Equalization. We need to have every one of you fill out your appeal form.

Click here to download the Petition-for-Review form, print it out and then fill in the blanks. Following is a series of instructions for filling out the form. Please have the filled out form in the mail by Thursday, January 11th.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE FORM

Just fill in the areas that are indicated by the arrows. Print your name, mailing address, phone numbers, parcel number (this is on your Assessment Notice – also called an APN), and the address of the property that you own in Incline Village or Crystal Bay. If you know what the original purchase price of your property and/or the date on which it was purchased, fill in that section as well.

Sign where indicated at the lower portion of the form and return to:

  • Village League
    1165 Vivian Lane
    Incline Village, NV 89451

The Village League will present all of the Petition forms that we receive to the Washoe County Assessor at one time, so that they can be consolidated into one hearing, if possible.

WHY DO WE NEED TO DO THIS?

As you can anticipate, Washoe County will be trying in every way possible to avoid having to refund the overpaid taxes plus the 6% interest that is due to you. We must be prepared, with every thing in our arsenal, to fight to keep the VICTORY that we have already won. We may have to engage the services of an attorney to represent all of us at a County Board of Equalization hearing. If so, we will notify you immediately. The time is short, as the Petitions must be filed no later than January 15, 2007.

Please mail in your completed form absolutely as soon as possible. We really need the cooperation of everyone who owns property in this area. Don’t be left out of this last phase of our four year battle for “uniform and equal taxation."

Sincerely,

Maryanne Ingemanson
